Three top-draw saves were seen throughout Europe over the weekend.
For the majority of his stay so far in England, David De Gea has been portrayed by many in the lame streammedia as the skinny, needs-to-baulk-up-badly, lightweight Spaniard. So negative has been the commentary that most expected De Gea to leave the Britannia Stadium with a catalogue of bruises following the expected man-handling by Stoke. As is typical, though, the negative outlook for De Gea came arguably before his best performance in the Premier League to-date.
De Gea’s two standout moments came in the first half. The custodian produced a fine fingertip save from a close-range to deny Wilkinson’s goal-bound drive, and the Spaniard then showed his agility with a superb stop at full stretch to deny Walters’ far-post effort.
